Caleta De Fuste, also known as Castillo is a family based resort surrounding a horse shoe shaped beach, which is protected by its situation from strong currents, and as such is ideal for children.
It is a ten minute drive from the airport, so just after landing you can start relaxing. Caleta is an ideal base if you'd like to explore the island as it's very centrally located, however the house is close (but not too close) to the many shops, restaurants and facilities, which include supermarkets and general stores.
The beach is perfect for young children as it is calm
and has only a gradual slope, so they can paddle to their hearts content. Further
out and ringed off from the swimmers you can try various excursion, including
boat and submarine trips as well as diving, jetskiing etc. These other activities
are clustered by the harbour, which is next to the beach.
Most of Caleta’s shops and restaurants are located together in one area, just two minutes walk from our house. Restaurants are varied and choices include Spanish, English, Chinese and Italian.
There is an excellent choice for shoppers, ranging from leather, jewellery, pottery and electronic items. There are also markets, banks, and cash points!
For golfers, a five minute drive will take you to Fuerteventura’s Main golf course, an 18-hole course which held the Spanish Open this year (see http://www.fuerteventuragolfclub.com/ for details). The Golf course area also houses a cinema, ten-pin bowling alley and shopping centre. There is a golf course in the north of the island, 40 minutes drive, there is one being finished now in the south of the island and another is being build alongside the existing course in Caleta.
